About Pommie

Built for people moving money between Britain and Australia who care about one thing:what actually lands.

Pommie compares estimated transfer outcomes after fees, exchange-rate spreads and provider costs — not just the prettiest advertised rate.

The Pommie rule

Don't compare the headline.
Compare what lands.

That is the simple idea behind the product. Pounds. Dollars. Done.

No marketing fluff

The ranking is based on estimated recipient amount, not who shouts loudest.

Fees plus spread

Some costs are obvious. Some are buried in the exchange rate. Pommie looks at both.

Made for movers

Useful for expats, families, savings, house money, pensions and large transfers.

Why it exists

I got sick of comparing exchange rates.

Every provider presents pricing differently. One shows a clear fee. Another says “no fee” but gives a weaker rate. Another looks great at £1,000 but less competitive at £10,000 or £25,000.

Pommie exists to answer the practical question people actually care about: if I send this amount, which provider gives the recipient the most money?

The problem with advertised rates

Advertised rates can be useful, but they rarely tell the full story. A provider can charge a visible transfer fee. A provider can include cost inside the exchange-rate spread. A provider can display a rate that looks attractive while still delivering less money after all costs are considered.

Pommie is designed to make those disguised costs easier to see. The comparison table ranks providers by estimated recipient amount, not by marketing language.

How Pommie estimates transfer costs

Pommie currently uses sampled provider quotes and rate assumptions to estimate what lands. That means it is not pulling every provider quote from a live checkout API every second.

This keeps the tool fast and simple, but estimates can be inaccurate when rates move, provider pricing changes or fees update. Before sending money, always confirm the latest live quote directly with the provider.

What Pommie is useful for

Pommie is useful for British expats in Australia, Australians sending money to the UK, people moving savings between countries, families supporting each other overseas, and anyone comparing GBP to AUD or AUD to GBP transfers.

It is not financial advice and it is not a guarantee of the final live quote. It is a practical comparison tool to help people understand transfer costs more clearly.
